Meditation used to be a little less complicated, at least that’s what we’d like to believe. Regardless of age, everyone experiences some form of stress when going through the rigors of everyday life. Whether you’re a student trying to balance work and schoolwork or a parent completing the daily marathon of working and running a home, stress is a fact of life. However, learning to cope with this stress can be essential knowledge that we gain in life. It can mean the change between living a healthy and productive life or suffering from headaches, insomnia, digestive problems, depression, anxiety, obesity, and drug addiction.
The good news is that there is a helpful tool that we can use to replace some of these unhealthy coping strategies: meditation. Meditation can help calm your mind and make you more resilient to deal with future stress. There are diverse types of meditation, but two critical rudiments found in many kinds of meditation are focused on concentration and attention to the breath (uniquely deeply relaxed living).
Just 15 minutes a day brands a difference
For more than 5000 years, people have practiced meditation to relax, restore, and restore balance in their lives. One of the best things about meditation is that anyone can do it. Another great benefit is that no membership or special equipment is required. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the house to do this. For example, a technique known as concentration meditation involves focusing on something visual like a candle flame or a verbal cue like a mantra. Meditating for just 10-15 minutes a day can have positive effects on your overall health. At first, it can be challenging to sit still and calm your mind. Don’t punish yourself or judge yourself when your thoughts linger, and your account is floating. It will happen. Just acknowledge it and then focus on meditating.
Find natural breaks in your routine
Natural breaks in your daily life can be the perfect time to meditate. For example, after you’ve just sent an email, you may be sitting at your computer and about to eat lunch. During this transition between activities, take a few minutes to breathe deeply first.
Breathe through your routine tasks
Repetitive mundane tasks like washing dishes and folding clothes can be turned into a meditation session with a few deep breaths at the right time. These moments that do not require decision making are right for mindfulness meditation. Throughout mindfulness meditation, you allow yourself to be in the moment and acknowledge thoughts and emotions without judgment.
If you meditate for a while, you will wonder how you lived without it. Take your time and test at different times of the day and settings to see what works best for you. Also, don’t try to pressure yourself to do it correctly. After all, it’s all about relaxing, relieving stress, and letting go of negative energies that may be affecting your overall health.
